Affiliate Marketing is a trending business today, offering enormous potentials for anyone interested in just anything, but as the rate of success in this sector continues to decline, even though the demand for Affiliate Marketing is on the rise, prospective affiliate marketers start asking themselves this question, ”Is Affiliate Marketing hard?”
Here are some key stats you need to know about Affiliate Marketing:
→ US Affiliate Marketing spend is predicted to grow 10.1% each year until 2020;
→ 81% Of Brands Use Affiliate Marketing Programs;
→ Search Interest Grew 30% For “Affiliate Marketing” In One Year
→ $7 Million In Affiliate Marketing Revenue Was Produced By One Influencer In A Single Year
→ 20% Of Publishers’ Annual Revenue Is Generated Through Affiliate Marketing
→ 16% Of All Online Orders Are Generated Through Affiliate Marketing
The figures speak for themselves. Affiliate marketing is dominating the digital economy globally. The alarming growth rate in this sector implies a proportionally growing rate of related opportunities.
And that’s why you read about outstanding success stories, of single persons making millions of dollars only within a single year. This was the case with Jason Stone who generated$7 million in retailer sales between June 2016 and June 2017 through affiliate marketing alone.
Those who excel at Affiliate Marketing really rock, but how many of them?
It is now unquestionable that we are in the era of Affiliate Marketing. The very fact that very few people succeed at this, definitely implies that there is still so much room for so many people who wish to venture into this line of business. I dare say the competition is still very low, because of the high rate of failure.
Why then do many Affiliate Marketers fail in an evergreen sector like Affiliate Marketing? What’s going on? Is Affiliate Marketing really that hard?
This article will provide19 reasons to explain why 95% of Affiliate Marketers fail, as well as recommended solutions to bypass these hurdles that stop Affiliate Marketers from excelling in this profitable sector.
Telling a prospective Affiliate Marketer that Affiliate Marketing is easy, is like telling a Prospective Mother, that giving birth is easy. Both Prospects approach their noble tasks with an unprepared mindset—— Laurine aka Stunning Bell
When envisioning the end results of Affiliate Marketing: financial freedom, recurring passive income that will sustain you for life, free time to do anything, enough capital to even start up an offline business, so much fun, and increased holidays without hurting your finances, etc, we always tend to underestimate the efforts required to get there.
Affiliate Marketing is very hard in its own right and by its very own nature. This statement is 100% true. I’m sorry to disappoint you if you were expecting me to say otherwise, but I want you to remember that the very first treatment for an illness, is its diagnosis.
When starting an affiliate marketing business online, you need to have this FACT embedded right into your subconscious mind, and prepare for the difficult journey that lies ahead of you.
As if being inherently difficult is not enough, there are several external factors that make this sector excruciatingly agonizing for those who attempt it from the wrong angle.
Below are some of the external factors that make affiliate marketing a nightmare for you:
Affiliate marketingis already hard, and if you get on board with the wrong mindset, it will even become more frustrating and unbearable for you.
Don’t think you can just come and play around with Affiliate Marketing and start making money overnight. It entails quite a lot to embody and come up with a strategy. And you don’t learn all of that overnight. Impossible.
Before you even start affiliate marketing, you need to ensure that certain prerequisites are met to prepare you psychologically. You need some sort ofpsychological reconditioning.
Yes. Affiliate marketing is not easy, and to tell you otherwise can be compared to telling a pregnant woman that labor lasts only for a few painless seconds to bring her bouncing baby into the world. Trust me on this. By the time she is done giving birth, you would be the last person she wants to see (if at all she wants to see you).
So let’s call a spade a spade right from the onset, to avoid any hard feelings later.
When you are trying to figure things out alone, you will not go very far. Unfortunately, the majority of courses online today are structured to give you theoretical training, and after a while, you are left on your own.
A significant number of Affiliate marketers who fail are working alone. There is just no one to encourage them when the going gets incredibly tough and mind you, there would be emotional rainy days when texting to someone who is in the same field as you could make all the difference.
If you work alone, you have a higher chance of giving up early and failing. You need a team. You need a community. You need to be surrounded by people who believe you can make it because they themselves are thriving at it. You need a consortium of like-minded people, gathered in one place, and easily accessible.
It would appear the coming of Affiliate Marketing took everyone unawares. if you take a closer look at the various professional sectors, there is a counselor for each one: counselor for unemployed citizens, retired employees, mentors at your workplace, and several forms of mentorship in various works of life.
Affiliate Marketing is not yet privileged to have mentors you can rely on to guide you on your journey. You have to deal with psychological traumas on your own, counsel yourself or look for someone more experienced who can help you psychologically. And where do find them by the way? You would have to start digging online, with little chances of success.
No wonder almost all affiliate marketers fail in the beginning and give up.
With Affiliate Marketing, you learn a lot of new things every day, and oftentimes when you come across new concepts, you just want some quick enlightenment to make understanding faster.
Where no instant help is available on the subject, this could be enough reason for a prospective affiliate marketer to give up pretty quickly.
Of course, you cannot spend most of your time Googling ‘how-tos’ for every new notion you come across. In the beginning, this could be manageable, as your energy is still overflowing, but at a certain point in time, it could be terribly overwhelming.
If You find yourself going back to Google solutions, you are moving down the path of frustration in the nearest future.
When you start your affiliate marketing business, don’t expect to start ranking on the top pages of Google. Generally, Google’s trust in your websites will increase by 10% every month, meaning IT TAKES 10 MONTHS before you can boast of
100% authority online (and provided you are publishing frequently too).
That does not mean that you will have to start making money only after 10 months. It means it could take about 10 months for Google to trust our site at 100% and start sending organic traffic FREE OF CHARGE. This is the best way to make your business last longer online-when you apply healthy strategies validated by Uncle Google.
Many education institutions are still adjusting to the rapid economic changes, which have resulted in affiliate marketing being one of the hottest courses of the century. It’s really hard to adjust, and for the few who have managed to partner with each other to create courses in affiliate marketing, they end up charging very high.
This is the case withUdacity and many others, charging as high as $1000 for a course which will last only 3 months, up to $4000 for other online courses. In fact, those who can afford those courses don’t need to get into affiliate marketing at all.
These prices could greatly discourage the beginner from growing in Affiliate Marketing.
If you are currently using a good training platform, you would have understood by now that building a business related to affiliate marketing takes time and reiterated efforts.
Beware of platforms that promise you results after 1 week!! as most of them are scams!! If you want the best out of Affiliate Marketing, flush out that misconception from your brains deceiving you to think that you will start getting quick results.
Look at only the time it takes to gain 100% trust with Google-10 months!!!
When starter affiliate marketers get into this business and see no results after 3 months, they get disappointed and withdraw. It’s obvious why the failure rate is alarming.
You see this affiliate marketing business thing is very practical, and the moment your courses do not offer the possibility to apply immediately to a website that is already live, then most of the students taking the course will give up sooner or later.
It’s true that some courses test your knowledge by giving projects, but unfortunately, once your period for accessing the course is over, you no longer have access to your projects. This is the case with Udacitythat limits your access to the training materials for only 3 months. In other words, they provide the training. You would have to budget additionally for basic affiliate marketing tools such as websites, hosting, keyword tools, etc.
And if you are starting for the very first time, you might not even know you need those tools, talk less of finding them online. This would contribute significantly to rapid abandonment of affiliate marketing by the starter.
To limit your chances of failing at Affiliate Marketing, you need a platform that offers not only unlimited access to training materials, but free tools to help you get started right away, and start making money while you learn, without having to move away from the training platform, to spend more on acquiring those tools, if at all you manage to get the good ones without being scammed!
I actually stopped here, trying to contemplate whether the appropriate topic here would be ”Setting Unrealistic Financial Expectations” or ”You Don’t Set Your Financial Expectations”, but then when I came across this wise saying, from my favorite mentor, Bob Proctor,
“Thoughts become things. If you see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand.” ― Bob Proctor, You Were Born Rich
I was then able to choose the most appropriate heading for this section
You see, setting financial expectations is the starting point of any business venture, not only affiliate marketing. You work
from the spiritual to the physical because everything starts there. Once you don’t tell the ”Universe” what you want, the ”Universe” will not move in your favor.
And you will know when the ”Universe” has started arranging things in your favor. How? You start getting those ideas how to write your content, what to write about, strategies to help you publish frequently, methods of writing an engaging content, etc.
There are even times when even without searching, you will stumble across excellent information online to make your blogging experience fascinating.
That’s what happens when you get it right ”Upstairs”. As soon as you set this spiritual task straight, you will unlock the energy needed to get there, and the way will be shown to you.
“Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.,
You will stop at nothing especially now that you know that affiliate marketing works. In fact, affiliate marketing is one of the surest ways of achieving your wildest dreams (don't talk about them to people around you, as they would consider you insane. Keep it to yourself and work in silence towards it). You saw the stats at the beginning of this blog. Plus not every starter makes it to the end. So imagine if you are one of the selected few who makes it to the end with the right system to take you by the hand from the very first day
The very fact that very few people succeed at Affiliate Marketing, should be your main motivation. You will renew your efforts every morning, having your end goals in mind, and you will stop at nothing to get to your dream.
If you are having difficulties developing that prosperity consciousness, I invite you to watch this video and learn how to go about it.
This is one of the main reasons why Affiliate Marketing is very hard because you need to put in consistent efforts on a daily basis, to set up your business.
Every business startup is similar, requiring sleepless nights, trying to figure out the best way to get things running. Why then do you think starting a billion dollar affiliate marketing business should be different?
When starting, be prepared to put in reiterated efforts every single day for a reasonable period of time. Google likes consistency, and if you want free traffic from Google (we are talking about billions of users online), you had better work on your consistency.
This is not appealing at all for the new affiliate marketer, but when you have your long-term goals strongly fixed at the back of your mind, you will find every reason to exceed Google’s expectations.
Another factor contributing to the rising failure rates is coming from the hosting services that host your affiliate marketing business.
To succeed at affiliate marketing, you must build a website to host your business because since your website becomes your personal
property. Building a website is the best way for your business to gain authority online.
Don’t be scared of the word ”building a website”. There are affiliate marketing platforms that help you set up your website within minutes without any need for coding skills to get a website up and running.
If you are unfortunate to take your affiliate marketing courses on one platform, which is different from the one hosting your business, then you can be a victim of unreliable hosting, causing you to spend a significant portion of your time and limited resources, jumping from host to host.
Finding a reliable hosting service is building a profitable and sustainable business. Having to change host several times is enough reason to quit affiliate marketing early enough.
Having a budget for your business and working with it saves a lot of time and embarrassment. But online services don’t care about that. They promise great products and services in the beginning, but when you engage financially, you get caught up
with unnecessary upselling for every little additional service.
This is particularly true today with a lot of online services that are important for your affiliate marketing business. I’m talking about affiliate marketing courses, web hosting, keyword tools, and pretty much every online business service.
When you are still new at affiliate marketing and totally unfamiliar with these upselling strategies, you find yourself spending more than you budgeted for your online business.
Needless to spell out the consequences-frustrations and abandonment.
1.13You Are Using A Non-Professional Platform And Expecting Big Results
How can you tackle a billion dollar business like Affiliate Marketing using some freelancer courses created by those who are still learning affiliate marketing themselves, or who create those courses solely for the purpose of making money?
You need a robust team of professionals, at least 10 of them, with at least 10 years of experience in this domain. You need a more formal/professional and legally solid platform. A community in its own right.
I don’t promote freelance courses, no matter how good they are for the following reasons:
==> there is no community access
==> there are no additional professional tools
==> there is no site support when something goes wrong with your affiliate marketing website.
==> incredibly difficult to access the creators of these courses, even though they are the main authors;
==> etc etc
A platform like Udemy is full of those freelancer courses, and I will never in my right senses recommend this platform for anyone who wishes to start affiliate marketing, not when I know of better options: These are the main reasons why I don’t recommend Udemy:
==> too many random courses, difficulty in choosing the best
==> Udemy was designed to allow anyone to create and market courses, so this platform is mostly profitable for course creators, not for those who wish to take affiliate marketing to the next level:
Your new affiliate marketing business is a billion-dollar empire in the making, and you need a billion-dollar affiliate marketing training platform to guarantee success in creating your empire. You need a robust team of professionals, with over 10 years of experience, whose main purpose is to see you succeed, not a single affiliate marketer trying to make some extra cash through their own short courses.
These numbers are accumulating each month, and would likely be hundreds of millions by the end of 2018. Finding a scam free platform for your affiliate marketing training has really become a daunting task today.
Just imagine someone very willing to start affiliate marketing, and gets scammed over and over again. I wouldn’t be surprised if that person just condemns the entire internet system.
How many affiliate marketers actually give a second thought to the type of affiliate programs to join? There are millions of affiliate programs out there, but if you want to make sure to generate that passive income, make sure to leverage affiliate programs that offer recurring commissions.
It’s huge work to get your affiliate marketing business running, and when your business finally takes off, it should be able to generate that passive income, even if you are not working on your website anymore.
Seriously, at a certain point in time, you would want to take a break from your website, and let your website continue to make money in your absence. You have to continue to think long-term with your affiliate business and programs.
I’m not saying that those programs that offer a one-off payment are not good. They are excellent but don’t focus all your attention on them. Equally integrate affiliate programs that are capable of generating money, as long as your customer continues to use the product/service your recommended.
With our rapidly changing and advancing technological economy, products that are selling very hot on Amazon today, for instance, would become very obsolete sooner or later, and the blog post you wrote on that product will become outdated too. That would mean you would have to start all over and write blogs about newly discovered products.
I will dare say focus on recurring commissions affiliate programs so that at a certain point in your Affiliate Marketing career, you can confidently retire without any fear of technological advancements bringing havoc to your website and earnings.
Before writing a blog post, I carry out a lot of research and there are several occasions where I’ve come across an amazingly informative and explicitly written content, WITH NO AFFILIATE LINKS INCLUDED.
This is a huge mistake. You have provided an excellent advice to the reader, without telling the reader where they can get their solutions and start making use of your advice? You are indirectly sending the reader away from your blog, to look for that article you recommended somewhere else, whereas you would have saved the reader much time and effort, by including one or two affiliate links, that could take the reader directly to what they were looking for.
And both of you win when this happens: the reader is happy, and you make money.
For instance, not everyone likes cats or dogs, but there are millions who do. The fact that you don’t like a cat, doesn’t mean your neighbor hates it too.
Everyone is unique, and your uniqueness is very much needed with your affiliate marketing business. When you start a dog niche, for instance, you will be able to write about the challenges your dog is facing, and how you go about helping your dog with specific products that work. Then proceed to provide your affiliate links to those products, to enable your readers to buy and help their dogs too.
So if you don’t like dogs, and you start a dog niche, you will not have the fluency needed to write content and build your website.
Google’s algorithms have known significant changes, especially when it comes to creating content. The heyday of joining Amazon and plopping up a few links and making money is over.
This time around, you must be able to create content of at least 1500 to 2000 words for your article to be noticed by Google. If you are one of those affiliate marketers that write very little content, then you are in for a disaster with Google Rankings.
This comes to reiterate the need to create a website you are passionate about so that you will never be short of words when you sit down to write.
This is similar to the point I raised above about focussing on one niche only. Choosing a niche is very tricky, and when you think you have clearly understood the notion of choosing a niche, sooner or later you realize that the practical application is different.
I made this mistake myself. I knew I had to focus on one niche, but after creating my website and worked on it for about 7 months, I realized that I had started up to 7 different related niches, all inside one website. LOL. I had to reorganize my website all over to target only one specific niche.
I kept spinning around all these 7 different niches and not getting any results and kept wondering about what I was doing wrong. I had to revisit my training platform and consult with the more experienced affiliate marketers. That’s when I realized I had been a Jack of all trade. That’s when I selected a niche which I mastered at my fingertips. Since then blogging has been easy for me. I have effortlessly written this post comprising over 4700 words.
When I think I’m capable of handling additional responsibilities, then I will start exploiting each of those other niches progressively, because they are all very good.

#3. MY TOP RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU TO OVERCOME ALL ABOVE MENTIONED CHALLENGES
This is the best choice I'm recommending for you, because not only do they provide all the attributes I've listed above and much more, there exists a huge gap between the features offered by this platform and those provided by the other coursesI've had the privilege to review.
I've also been building my business here, and I'm glad I found this amazing community.
